At Home with Srirat, sriratmakes

Food, ceramics and gathering around the table

Description

At Home With is an original series from Honest Toil exploring the people using our olive oil in their own homes. Through conversations, recipes and personal stories, the series offers a glimpse into the spaces, traditions and rituals that shape the way we cook at home – celebrating thoughtful ingredients, shared tables and the role our olive oil plays in everyday kitchens.

For Srirat, everything begins at the table.

As the designer, artist and founder of SRIRATMAKES, her work is rooted in connection and in the quiet rituals of gathering, sharing and returning to the same pieces over time. “Passing the love around sits at the heart of my practice,” she explains.

Growing up in a Thai household, food was never just food. It was central – shared dishes, small plates passed between hands, rice bowls filled and refilled. “It’s where stories, habits and traditions are carried on.”

Description

That philosophy carries directly into her ceramics. The pieces featured here are designed for that kind of eating: bowls for rice and soups, small plates for fruit, dips and sharing. Objects made to be used daily – held, passed, and brought back to the table again and again.

Cooking, too, is an extension of that connection. At home, it’s how Srirat stays close to her roots.

“I learned through my mum – not just recipes, but the gestures, the rhythms,” she says. “The way good food brings people together.”

There’s a sense of intuition that runs through both her cooking and her making. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a chef – inspired by hours spent watching MasterChef Australia. Now, that same hands-on, instinctive process lives on in her ceramics studio.

Her cooking reflects that approach: unfussy, flavour-led, and designed to share. A bowl of spicy miso udon noodles, crispy tofu coated in soy, honey and chilli. A simple salad of fresh peaches and figs, finished with toasted nuts, basil, and a generous drizzle of Honest Toil olive oil.

Whether it’s through food or the vessels it’s served in, the intention is the same – to bring people together, and to keep those moments moving around the table.

Srirat's Recipes

  • Meanwhile boil the udon noodles for 2 mins
  • Take the noodles out, into a new pan of olive oil + garlic. Let it fry for 2 mins, adding miso, some hot water, soy sauce, palm sugar, chilli oil, adjust as desired
  • Stir together and plate on your favourite plate

Fresh Peach & Fig Salad

  • Grab some fresh figs and peaches, slice into thin pieces and lay on the plate
  • Sprinkle over toasted hazelnut, pine nuts, pinch of salt, fresh basil
